What the NREMT Cognitive Exam Tests
The NREMT cognitive exam is a computer-adaptive test (CAT) built from the NREMT's practice analysis and the National EMS Education Standards. The Paramedic test plan (effective July 1, 2024) breaks down as:

What the Adaptive Format Means for Your Prep
The Paramedic examination uses computerized adaptive testing to estimate your ability relative to the entry-level standard. Questions are selected from the evolving ability estimate and the examination requirements, so one correct answer does not guarantee a harder next question. Clinical judgment is the largest domain, which is what branching scenarios practice. EMS-MedSim does not reproduce NREMT's adaptive algorithm.
